The Merrymeeting Art Center is pleased to announce its November program, “‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’: A Collection of Original Posters from World War I”, opening on Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2016, at our gallery at 9 Main Street, Bowdoinham.
‘Keep the Home Fires Burning’ consists of a private collection of 13 original posters (some of them rare, all of them visually striking and thought-provoking) documenting American involvement in World War I. Local materials provided by the Bowdoinham Historical Society will also be on display.
The MAC gallery will be open on Veterans’ Day, Friday Nov. 11, 11 a.m. — 7:00 p.m. (with refreshments), and on Saturday November 12, 19, and 26, 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Retired historian Howard Solomon, who collected the posters, will present a gallery talk/discussion on Sunday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m.
“Keep the Home Fires Burning” coincides with Veterans’ Day activities at the Southard House Museum, 75 Main Street, Richmond. The museum will host an open house on November 11 immediately following Richmond’s Veterans’ Day parade (11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), featuring photos of veterans from the Civil War to the present. For more information on Southard’s activities, see http://southardhousemuseum.com.
All MAC events are free and open to the public. For additional information about “Keep the Home Fires Burning,” scheduling other showings, etc., call 666-3589.
